Renter-Friendly Ideas to Upgrade Your Walls

Wall with Plants and Paintings in Salem RentalLike most Salem renters, you might have seen too many blank white walls than you would like to. But when you look at an empty wall as a blank canvas, suddenly it is filled with potential. That empty wall can be a space to bring your personality and style into an otherwise impersonal space. Of course, you have to be careful not to alter or damage the wall as most landlords don’t really want that. Even then, there are still a lot of alternatives to safely decorate your rental home. If you are ready to go beyond empty walls, here are some ideas to infuse beauty into your home without permanently changing or damaging your walls.

Gallery Wall

Another way to personalize an empty wall is to create a gallery wall. A gallery wall is more than a few framed photographs; it is a coordinated display of art or photographs arranged with intent and an eye for design. Pick a theme color or similarly styled art pieces to achieve a coordinated look. You can also coordinate your gallery wall by using the same style or color of the frame on each piece. Or, you can add some excitement by going eclectic with different colors and frames! Use removable double-sided adhesives to hang your pieces to prevent wall damage.

Natural Beauty

Fill your empty wall with natural beauty by adding plant shelves. Plants add relaxing greenery while freshening the air inside any home. You can use vibrant pots, too, for a custom look. But hanging shelves on the wall might not be a very good idea. Instead, try out a tall open bookshelf or use removable adhesives to show off your plants.

Tapestry or Fabric Wall Hanging

Go for a tapestry, rug, or fabric wall if you want a unique look for an empty wall. For the crafty ones, making macrame art or weaving fabrics together will make a beautiful display. Or, you can purchase an interesting piece of fabric, tapestry, or lightweight rug and hang it on the wall. If you do not want to have a big piece of fabric, you can arrange a variety of smaller ones in the space. Just ensure that you use removable hangers and adhesives.

Temporary Wallpaper

If hanging things on the wall still isn’t doing the trick, you can opt to put up temporary wallpaper on the empty wall instead. This is a great way for renters like you to create an accent wall as you do not need to paint or damage the wall to install it. There are also many different styles of temporary wallpaper to choose from, from traditional to contemporary. You can be bold with bright colors or keep it on the softer side with neutrals. Whatever you choose, you can easily remove the wallpaper when you move out, therefore ensuring your security deposit refund.

Go 3-D

An empty wall is also a great place to display your collections, from hats to baskets. Beautiful woven baskets or sunhats hung on the wall create a beautiful, unified display. Since these items are lightweight, you can confidently use removable adhesives and it will make a lasting impression on guests! Your wall will reflect your personality with a display of your favorite 3-D things!
